Morocco's Golden Sands

A Desert Magical Tour

This tour visits cities like Marrakech, Ait Ben Haddou, Skoura, Zagora, Tagounite, Erg Chigaga, Foum Zguid, Taliouine, Taroudante, and Essaouira. Includes visits to historical landmarks, Berber villages, desert 4WD ride, and leisure days.

Day 1: Arrive at Marrakech Airport transfer to hotel

When we arrive at the airport, we will be greeted by a representative who will help us with our transfer to the hotel and ensure that everything goes smoothly.

Day 2: Marrakech

Today, you will have the opportunity to learn about the rich history of Morocco, with a focus on the city of Marrakech, which has long been the capital of the Maghreb region. The tour will begin at the Koutoubia Mosque, a 12th-century religious structure known for its 69-meter-tall minaret, which is a prominent landmark in Marrakech. You will then visit the Saadian dynasty tombs, dating back to the 17th century, and see the intricate carved and plaster work that decorates them. The tombs serve as the final resting place for the Saadian family.

Next, you will walk through the 12th-century Kasbah and visit the Jewish quarter, where you will see the oldest functioning synagogue in Morocco, called “Lezama” and built in 1492. The tour will also include a visit to the Bahia palace, a 19th-century building known for its intricate artisanal work in wood and plaster. In the afternoon, you will explore some of the lesser-known areas of the city, including the markets, bakeries, hammams, and fountains. You will also visit the colorful souks and see the various stalls and workshops of local artisans, including tinsmiths, dyers, and herbalists. The tour will conclude at the Djemaa El Fna square, the largest square in North Africa, where locals gather to enjoy performances by storytellers, musicians, snake charmers, and other entertainers.

Day 3: Day at leisure:

Today is a day for you to do as you please. You can choose to relax at the hotel or go out and explore the city of Marrakech with your guide and driver

Day 4: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Skoura

After breakfast, take a drive through the High Atlas Mountains to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-protected village in the pre-Saharan region. Explore the village, known for its Berber architecture and popularity as a film location for productions such as Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, and Babel. Afterwards, continue on to Skoura.

Day 5: Skoura – Zagora  – Tagounite

After breakfast, drive south to Zagora through the Anti Atlas Mountains, stopping at Tamegroute to visit the Koranic library and medieval potteries. Continue on to Tagoounite, taking in the views of palm groves and fields along the way.

Day 6: Tagounite –  M’hamid El Ghizlane – Erg Chigaga

Drive to M’hamid El Ghizlan for lunch, then take a 4WD ride through the desert to the Erg Chegaga dunes. Spend the night at a camp where you can stare up at the stars and feel connected to the natural world.

 

Day 7: Erg Chigaga – Foum Zguid – Taliouine – Taroudante

After sunrise and breakfast, drive 90 kms across the Sahara desert to Foum Zguid. Along the way, stop at the village of Taliouine to learn about Safran production. In the afternoon, continue on to Taroudant, a city known for its ochre-colored cob walls and centuries-old handicraft traditions. Visit the suks and markets, browse for Berber carpets and leather goods, and see finely etched silver objects.”

“The Medina of Taroudant has preserved its ancient charm, with passageways of shops filled with antique dealers, jewelers, stone sculptors, and master tanners and leather workers. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the Berber market at Tamaklotte Square, or the city’s other fascinating souks and squares.

Day 8: Day At leisure.

You have the option to visit the old city and souks of Taroudant or go to the city of Agadir. It is also possible to visit both cities if you wish.

Day 9: Taroudante – Taghazoute – Essaouira

After breakfast, drive along the Atlantic ocean and through the western part of the High Atlas mountains, seeing Berber villages and the rare argan nut forest. Upon arrival to Essaouira, check into our accommodation and have the rest of the day to relax

Day 10: Essaouira

Begin your visit of the old Portuguese fort at the harbor of Essaouira, a charming fortified fishing port on the Atlantic coast. Explore the town’s fortifications, featuring a blend of Portuguese and Moroccan military architecture, and visit the spice souks, jewellery market, artisan markets, and carpentry workshops. End your tour in the harbor, where you can enjoy fresh, grilled fish. The rest of the day is free to relax.

Day 11: Essaouira – Marrakech Airport

After breakfast, transfer to the Marrakech airport for your return flight. Safe travels, and we hope to see you again soon!
